Babo Botanicals sunscreen is a popular mineral sunscreen in the clean beauty space. Today’s post will dive into a few key details to help you decide if this sunscreen is worth a try.
Product Snapshot:
- Zinc Oxide is the primary ingredient in this mineral sunscreen
- EWG Verified
- SPF 50
- Tinted formula available for a tiny bit of coverage
- Doesn’t smell bad (like some mineral sunscreens)
- Good for daily use, not water-resistant
- The formula is runny and somewhat oily
This sunscreen is a good choice for those with combination or dry skin. The Tinted Babo Botanicals sunscreen has a dark pigment to it but doesn’t provide much coverage. It is just enough to add a light glowy gleam to the skin and works very well under makeup.
Babo Botanicals Sunscreen Review
I started using Babo Botanicals Tinted SPF 50 Sunscreen earlier this year. Overall, I find the formula a little oily, but easy to wear and VERY moisturizing. The sunscreen formula is fairly thin and requires a good shake before application.
Things I enjoy:
- How easy the Babo Botanicals sunscreen is to apply and spread
- The fact the formula doesn’t smell strong like other mineral sunscreens
- The glowy look it gives the skin
- How lightweight the tint in the formula is
Things I don’t care for:
- How thin the formula is
- How oily the formula can be if not shaken enough
I don’t normally go for tinted sunscreen because I don’t self tan and my complexion is naturally pale. However, the Babo Botanicals sunscreen tint is quite nice after applying.
At first, it can look bronzy, but the tint is so light it doesn’t stay that way. The formula blends out nicely into a faint, glowy sheen with an as-advertised sheer tint, which I enjoy.
Babo Botanicals Sunscreen Ingredients
Zinc Oxide is the active ingredient in the formula with 20.6% Zinc Oxide protecting the skin from UVA and UVB rays. We also love to see that this sunscreen is fragrance-free, which is a great step in a non-irritating skincare routine.
The formula also includes something called Nutri-Soothe, a patented herbal blend of organic raspberry oil and sustainably sourced passion fruit oil. These oils cause the skin to appear glazed, a look Hailey Beiber would approve of.
One of the reasons I picked up the Babo Botanicals sunscreen in the first place is because it is EWG-verified. This ranking is not easy to achieve and is honestly a rarity among sunscreens. This means the sunscreen doesn’t contain concerning ingredients such as Oxybenzone or Octinoxate.
Babo Botanicals and Sensitive Skin
The cool thing about Babo Botanicals is it was designed for sensitive skin. That means, while the formula does present as oily and potentially pore-clogging, she is far from these things.
On the contrary, this sunscreen is lightweight, breathable and clean. I wouldn’t say my skin is sensitive, but I’ll also say that I use very few products and have always kept my skincare routine as simple as I could. Babo Botanicals has been a great addition to my daily facial lineup.
Babo Botanicals Story
Like many clean beauty brands, Babo Botanicals was born out of necessity. Kat Solomon founded the brand in 2010 after having her first child and realizing the market was void of clean, yet effective products. The company gets its name in part from her son’s bunny rabbit stuffed animal ‘Babo’.
You can find Babo Botanicals on Amazon or the Babo Botanicals website for $21.50. You get a 1.7-ounce bottle that should last you a little while, as the formula is easy to spread and goes far.
