This Honest Beauty Hydrogel Cream review is brought to you by Amazon Prime Day (…and my wallet).
*A moment and a bit of applause for the truly groundbreaking originality of that fact.*
On a serious note, I have been in the market for a nontoxic, EWG-verified moisturizer ever since I realized my Cerave Daily Moisturizing Lotion had endocrine-disrupting parabens in it.
Looks like I’ve found a solution in Jessica Alba’s Honest Beauty Hydrogel Cream. Maybe you’re looking for something similar. Let’s get into the nitty-gritty of this product.
Honest Beauty Hydrogel Cream Review
This cream is everything you want in a cream. Think luxurious, thick, supple, extremely hydrating, and rich. The formula easily lays on the skin and is suitable for morning and night use.
The Hydrogel Cream isn’t one of those moisturizers that takes itself so seriously that it sits on the skin forever and doesn’t seem to absorb or change the texture of the skin in the least.
On the contrary, I found the Hydrogel Cream to impact the texture of my skin in a positive way (and fairly quickly too). After only a week of use, I noticed a little more shine, less apparent pores, and what I would describe as a healthy-looking moisture barrier on my skin.
Hydrogel Cream Ingredients + EWG Verified Ranking
The star of the show is the ingredients list. For the full list, visit the EWG Hydrogel Cream product breakdown. EWG provides a close look at all the ingredients, including their respective functions and safety scores.
If you’re not aware, the EWG is a non-profit third-party organization that reviews a wide range of consumer products in terms of toxicity, carcinogenic properties, and known irritants and allergens. Since the existing governing agencies in the U.S. may not be as altruistic or well-researched as we would hope, the EWG reviews products for hazardous ingredients and formulas that have been found to be harmful to the body.
Thankfully, this Hydrogel Cream moisturizer gets an EWG-verified rating. EWG verification means the product has been found to be non-toxic and void of cancer-causing and endocrine-disrupting ingredients.
Hydrogel Cream Formula
Honest Beauty’s Hydrogel Cream formula includes:
- Squalane – A poly-unsaturated hydrocarbon liquid used for emollient properties that moisturize and soften the skin.
- Jojoba Ester – A derivative of Jojoba oil used as a skin-conditioning agent that soothes and moisturizes the skin.
- 2 sizes of Hyaluronic Acid – A molecule that helps hydrate, firm, and reduce the appearance of fine lines. The different molecular weights included in the formula help bind and retain moisture in different layers of the skin.
I am pleased to say this cream does not include parabens, silicones, or synthetic fragrances or dyes. I have also found the Hydrogel Cream pairs well with straight organic Jojoba oil.
Honest Beauty Sustainability and Packaging
Honest Beauty and the umbrella corporation The Honest Company is a “mission-driven brand focused on leading the clean and conscious lifestyle movement.”
To that end, Honest Beauty updated its packaging to feature 100% recyclable cartons. The cartons make use of upcycled sugarcane by-products and do not include any form of tree paper.
The plastic container, cap, and inner white pod insert in the Hydrogel Cream package is made of 30% post-consumer recycled plastic. The company has pledged to continue to improve sustainability measures.
Honest Beauty About the Brand and Co-Founder Jessica Alba
Some backstory on the Honest Beauty brand. Actress and now-mother Jessica Alba co-founded Honest Beauty in 2012. The idea for the company came following the birth of her first daughter in 2008 when Alba was stunned by all the baby products that contained petrochemicals and synthetic fragrances.
Alba retains her status as co-founder and serves the brand as Chief Creative Officer. The Honest Company is a self-proclaimed wellness brand with a desire to empower people to live happy, healthy lives. The Honest Company and Honest Beauty take high standards and transparency very seriously and are proud of the many social and community initiatives they are a part of.
Is Hydrogel Cream Worth it?
So, with all that said, is the Hydrogel Cream worth it?
At a price point of around $22 for a 1.7 ounce jar, it isn’t cheap. The quality of the ingredients and EWG verification do offer peace of mind, though, and a tried and true facial cream that can be used daily or sparingly, depending on your needs. Overall, I’d say it is worth the cost of what you get.
I should also mention that you can order Hydrogel Cream pod refills for $18. Not only do you save money, but you save tossing and repurchasing the plastic exterior container. Try out the Hydrogel Cream if you’re in the market for a nontoxic facial moisturizer.
